Desktop import guide

Test a QBO file before it touches your books.

Use a blank test company first. A file that downloads successfully is not proof that QuickBooks Desktop will accept it.

Back up first

Back up the company file before importing any bank transactions. Never test an unknown file in the only copy of your books.

Use a test company

Create a blank company, then import the file through the Web Connect workflow. Record the Desktop version and account type.

Check the result

Confirm transaction count, dates, amounts, descriptions, account selection, and the behavior when the same file is imported twice.

Know the boundary

Intuit can reject incomplete or incompatible Web Connect files, and some imports require an Intuit account sign-in.
